Jaco Van Zyl secures his lead

Well played golf from Jaco Van Zyl at Montgomerie Maxx Royal Course: thanks to 69 in the second round after opening with 61, he stays ahead in the Turkish Airlines Open 2015 part of the European Tour Final Series first leg in Belek, Antalya. The South African kept his lead during the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open, but with a strong group chasing him: Richard Bland and Chris Wood tied two strokes to follow Zyl. Bland played the front nine in a seven under par 28 to sign for a 65; Chris Wood signed seven birdies securing the second spot at the end of the day after two rounds.

The best scorer of the day was Matthew Fitzpatrick, who carded 63 (9 birdies and 9 pars), which is 10 shots better than his first round. Van Zyl's 14 under total equalled the 36-hole record set by Ian Poulter last year, but he will still have a lot of work to win his first European Tour title with Race to Dubai leader Rory McIlroy, Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti and the winner of the Turkish Airlines Open 2013 Victor Dubuisson all in the top ten.

Rory McIlroy finished just four shots back and without a single bogey on his card this week. Alexander Levy’s comfortable 65 tied him with McIlroy. The Northern Irishman and Bland are the only men in the top five this week without a dropped shot on their cards.
Back-to-back birdies for Kiradech Aphibarnrat and he signed for 68 to finish the day nine under. Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell are also within five shots of the leader.

Among the local players the lowest score was signed by Ali Altuntas (74) to go to the third round with +3.
